Yesterday, the Today Show featured a story about a woman who got scammed by the Mystery Shopper Company, Best Surveys Inc. Best Surveys Inc. claims that you can make $700 a week by becoming a mystery shopper for them; they even post a Better Business Bureau symbol on their website.

The scam consists of Best Surveys Inc. sending a fake check in the amount of $1000 to the participant; the participant then cashes the check at their bank, and completes their assignment by reporting on a Western Union or other cash wiring company. The participant then wires $900 to Best Surveys Inc, and then gets to keep $100 as their profit.

Seems like easy money, right? But a couple weeks later the bank finds out that the initial check was counterfeit, leaving the participant responsible for paying the bank back the money. By this time Best Surveys Inc has taken off with your money and is nowhere to be found. (more…)

If you watched The Celebrity Apprentice last night you saw all the commercials and presentations for the ACN Video Phone. During these commercials ACN boasts a home-based business opportunity, so I decided to look into it.

It turns out that ACN is the world’s largest direct seller of communications; digital phone service and now the new video phone. The ACN website doesn’t go into detail about the home-based business opportunity, but it is endorsed by mega entrepreneur, Donald Trump. So if you’re interested in direct sales, and the latest in technology, this may be good home-based business opportunity for you.

After a long year of doing research and writing content, and after four hectic months of working with a graphic designer, I am proud to officially launch The Work at Home Woman!

I decided to create this website after the birth of my wonderful daughter, Hadley. I have been very fortunate in that I’ve been able to stay at home with my daughter full time since she was born.  When my daughter was four months old, I became determined to find a way to make some extra cash from home. I searched online and networked with friends and past employers, asking them if there was any work that I could do for them while taking care of my daughter from home.  My networking efforts paid off and I started working part time from home for a small publishing company that a friend worked for.
