Tell us a little bit about Scentsy and how you got started.

The Beginning of Scentsy:

Scentsy began in 2003 with the powerfully simple idea of aromatic candles, heated in decorative warmers with wax melted by the heat of a light bulb instead of by the traditional wick and flame. Scentsy’s founders shared enthusiasm for the idea, from this idea, they created a partnership and Scentsy was born. The Making of a Home-Based Franchise – Part II

Well Styled Franchise

By Michelle Rodriguez

In my last post I talked about coming to grips with the idea of offering Well Styled as a franchise. Looking back, I’ve realized one key thing: If it feels right, then hang on and enjoy the ride!

Along the ride to franchising, research is fundamental step! Although I love internet research, to me, there is nothing like being advised by an actual live person. My first resource to contact was BigAustin, which is a one-stop educational resource for local entrepreneurs. I called BigAustin and explained to them my scenario, and in their kind, BigAustin way they said, “I don’t know off the top-of-my-head, but I’ll get you in touch with someone who can help.” Within the next hour I had a call from Mike Pagani of Franchise Resources and we set up a meeting for that same week. Work/Life Balance: Even Wonder Woman Hangs it Up Now and Then

BarbaraBy Barbara Seifert

When I was a teenager, one of the hottest shows on TV was Wonder Woman.  It was a show about a woman, a corporate executive by day who transformed into a superhero when a crisis occurred or someone needed rescued.  She had this really cool costume with a gold belt and gold cuff bracelets. Her powers included super strength, speed, and flight. Wonder Woman was powerful.  But she was also human; meaning, that she took time to rest when she needed to and got involved in playful activities, like tennis or going out with friends.

Sometimes, we, as the strong women that we are, can often feel like a wonder woman – taking care of our families, working at our jobs, and giving of ourselves while trying to squeeze in “me” time.  It seems that we don’t often know how to find the work/life balance that we need in our lives.  Finding the balance isn’t easy, but it is possible, with a little practice, of course.  It all depends on one’s coping skills, i.e. the strengths and strategies we use to deal with adverse people or situations. Staying Disciplined When Working From Home

Lynn RussoBy Lynn Russo

As a freelance writer and editor working from home, people often ask me, “How are you able to get anything done? If it were me, I’d be playing computer games or doing laundry all day. I’m not disciplined enough to do that!”

Actually, you’re more disciplined than you might think. It’s really just a matter of setting up boundaries and sticking to them. For instance, my first rule is to get up in the morning by a specific time. While I have enjoyed the luxury of not using an alarm clock for the past six years, I make sure that I am always at my desk by 8 or 8:30 a.m. If you need a little assistance, set your alarm for the same time you would if you were driving to the office.
