Interview with Work at Home Mom – Amy Bellgardt of Mom Spark

Amy

Do you work at home?

Yes, I am a SAHM and a WAHM!

Do you have any children?

Yes, I have two boys, nine and two.

How many hours do you work a week?

This is hard to calculate, because my days are not structured. I would have to guess around 30-40 hours a week.

Tell us a little bit about Mom Spark and Mom Made That and how you got started.

I created Mom Spark as a way to communicate with the outside world. At the time, I was a SAHM of two children, one being a difficult newborn, and since I couldn’t leave the house much, I started a blog.

Mom Made That! was inspired by a holiday guide I did for Mom Spark. I figured that I could create a holiday guide year long, as well as support mom businesses in the process.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for a year, but have been writing since high school.

How would you rate your success from 0 – 10?

I feel blessed to be where I am right now, so I’d have to say a 10.

How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?

There are some tools I use to keep me sane, like my iPhone, iMac and spiral notebooks. Because I do work from home, my kids come first, so my days are jumbled and crazy.

What has been your biggest business struggle?

I think the biggest struggle has been time. I am full to the brim with ideas and thoughts, but I simply do not have the time to execute them all. My family comes first. :)

What are your 3 favorite websites or blogs?

This changes almost weekly for me, but right now I am loving The Pioneer Woman, Mom Bloggers Club , and Twittermoms.

What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?

My best advice for a new entrepreneur would be patience, and taking the time to build real relationships. I see so many new businesses give up after a few, short weeks because they loose patience. A successful business takes time to build, and lots and lots of patience. Networking and connecting with others is also crucial in moving a business forward, so take the time to do it. You may even make a friend along the way. ;)
