5 Ways to Make Money from Your Home

By Martha Keagan

Supplementing your income is never a bad idea; if you need the money, why not? Thousands of people work full-time and come home to their empty homes every day only to worry about money. Thoughts of putting away a little money for a rainy day or for future retirement years flood your brain and the worrying begins.

Solution: We must learn to put forth our entrepreneurial skills and delve into other means of additional income. This is not as difficult as some people may think. With a little ingenuity and some hard work you might just end up a little bit richer.

Here is a list of ways to bring in some extra cash while working out of your home:

Online Auction Sites:

People are bringing in tremendous amounts of cash by selling items online in auction websites. You can start by cleaning house and selling all that “stuff” you’ve been meaning to get rid of for months. Actually, the beauty of this is two-fold: You are cleaning house while making money! They say that the more space you have the more creative you become. The de-cluttering can create peace of mind. Once you have cleared out the things that you no longer have the need for, you can venture out even further in your business endeavors. Buying at garage sales, clearance items in a store and various other places and then reselling them online can be very profitable for some. If you see a great deal that you feel has potential for resale, pick it up. You can research online as to what are “hot selling items” on the web.

Sell Your Photos:

Do you enjoy taking pictures? Harness your photography skills and find images for that perfect shot. Experiment taking pictures of items, people, nature, animals and anything else you can think of. Think: eye-catching. Be aware of your surroundings and attempt to capture a photograph unlike others. You can be very creative with a camera if you look beyond what you are seeing. Even a simple photograph can be captivating and beautiful. Be sure to carry your camera around with you wherever you go and always have batteries charged up so that you never miss that “perfect” shot. Once you have some great pictures you can sell them to photo hosting websites. There are also sites that you can post your pictures so that other people can buy them.

Freelance Writing:

Freelance writing has become very popular as a means of bringing in extra income. There are many online forums looking for talented freelancers. Lots of businesses would rather pay someone else to do the writing. Some freelance writers are making $30 or more an hour doing this. Some sites may ask that you write from a personal standpoint where other sites will require you to do some online research before actually writing the article. Either way, you can be successful in bringing in a good chunk of change.

Transcription Services:

There are many types of transcription services. Some, such as medical and legal, require certification, but many sites online will allow you to offer your transcription services with no formal training necessary. Transcription typically involves listening to audio files and typing them into a document.

Answering Services:

Taking calls for a doctor’s answering service is a great way to make some extra cash. A person working in this field would be online and ready to take incoming phone calls for doctors when they are away from the office. The majority of calls that come in are from patients. Once you received the phone calls you would then attempt to reach the doctor so that he could return the calls to his patients.

Money worries are some of the worst kind of worries you can have, because they really affect all aspects of your life. But if you have the time to do some research, there’s no reason that you shouldn’t be able to make a little extra cash on the side from home. It’s simple; all you have to do is start looking right NOW.

Good ideas! I submitted a bunch of photos to one of the big photo sites but they were all rejected (guess I still have much to learn in the way of photography :))
