Book Review: TIPS for Small Business and Marketing

By Holly Reisem Hanna

One of the first people I met on Twitter is Shara Lawrence-Weiss of Mommy Perks. Since our first encounter on Twitter, we’ve gotten to know each other fairly well and during this time we’ve been able to assist each other with cross promotions, referrals and recommendations.

In fact, Shara is probably one of the most helpful and caring individuals that I know online. She’s always willing to share her knowledge, expertise and she’s been a huge cheerleader for me, as well many other small business owners.

So when Shara asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing her e-book, TIPS for Small Business and Marketing it was a no brainer.

For those of you who don’t know Shara, she took over the Mommy Perks Brand in 2009 and has since made it into the empire that it is today. The thing that I love about Shara and her articles is that she is so candid and matter of fact and that’s just how her e-book is.

TIPS for Small Business and Marketing is a 30 page e-book that is broken down into 14 sections; it contains everything from dealing with rejection and jealously to tips for making your business stand out.  The e-book is very conversational in nature; it actually feels like you’re sitting down with Shara for coffee.

While the book focuses on many of the various aspects that you’ll encounter while running a business and how to handle them, there are also a ton of great business resources, many that I’ve never heard of. In fact, I was able to add a few to my to-do list for my own marketing purposes.

One of my favorite parts of the book is where Shara shares her ten tips for moms who run a business from home. The advice she gives is right-on, and it’s not your typical, “read one business book each month” advice. Its advice about dealing with many of the feelings and real life issues that you’ll encounter as a mom entrepreneur – an area that most business books don’t cover.

Overall the book is valuable tool to have on hand, and the way it is formatted is perfect for busy mom entrepreneurs who only able to read a little bit here and a little bit there.  The book is filled with so many resources that I know I will refer to it often.
