Recently, Forbes published their infamous list of The Top 30 Under 30, and like the majority of top lists that are published on the Web, women were underrepresented by a huge margin, specially in the categories of technology and social media. While these specific lists seemed to focus on technology creators (where women are making considerable contributions) these lists all too often forget the fact that women are the dominant users and adopters of technology and social media.

In fact, the ever so popular Pinterest, boasts a 97% female user rate here in the United States. I could rattle off stats all day, but instead, I’d like to show you this awesome infographic from Hudson and York.

Have you joined the Pinterest craze?

It seems everywhere you look somebody new is talking about Pinterest, and there is good reason why. Not only was Pinterest named one of the Top 50 Websites by Time Magazine, but in a recent study done by Shareaholic, Pinterest beat out well known social sharing sites, like YouTube, Google+, LinkedIn and MySpace for percentage of total referral traffic in January 2012. In fact, in a study done by Experian, Pinterest now ranks as one of the top ten social networking sites on the web.

Not only is Pinterest getting rave reviews from major tech players and social media gurus, but small business owners, mom bloggers and even job seekers have been able to cash in on this new social media craze. (more…)

Forums are great.  They are a wonderful place to meet new people, share ideas and learn new things.  They’re amazing branding platforms—allowing you to share your company’s message with site visitors while also allowing others to promote their personal and professional brands.

With all the good, there comes some potentially not so good.  Forums can also be venues for people to make malicious posts and defame other people and businesses.  As concerned and effective business owners, there are things we can do to protect ourselves and our visitors from such online harassment and defamation. Top 30 Women Tweeting About Tech

Back in April I wrote a post called, The 25 Most Influential Women Tweeting About Entrepreneurship. The article was very popular, so popular that one of my Twitter followers suggested that I write an article on the top women tweeting about tech. She even went so far as to give me a list of suggestions, thanks @leesabarnes.

Recently an article was published on Business Live, saying that women were emerging as the dominant users of technology… “that declining prices and new devices that helped women perform multiple roles – parent, worker, care-giver, social organiser, cleaner, cook and so on – was driving this trend”.

With technology playing such a supportive role, in the lives of work at home women everywhere, I decided it was time to give some praise to the women who have paved the way. (more…)
