Mom Finds Perfect Home-Based Franchise

Angela Delaney is a 32 year old stay-at-home mom and entrepreneur, who has two beautiful children, Jack (age 3) and Julia (age 11 mos.). If you had asked her 5 years ago where she would be right now, she would have answered, “working for some company”.

In the beginning of 2005 Angela was working full-time as a marketing assistant for a laboratory, and her husband Paul was working full-time as a property manager.  Right before the birth of their son Jack, Paul approached Angela about buying a small franchise based out of Virginia called DoodyCalls.

DoodyCalls provides pet waste removal services to residential and commercial clients. Mainly they were called “pooper scoopers”. At this point Angela had thought that Paul had lost his mind. Not only were they about to become brand new parents, but business owners too?

Well, as the weeks went by and her husband grew more and more interested in the company, and they flew out to Virginia to meet the franchisor, Jacob and his wife Susan. Angela and Paul were really impressed with the company and needless to say, shortly became the third DoodyCalls franchise owners.

Angela and Paul did a lot research, but couldn’t find any local scoopers in the area. They knew that they could really bring a great service to Massachusetts. Angela and Paul opened up for business on March 31, 2005; Angela was about 4 months pregnant at the time.

They operated the business by themselves and mainly did the scooping on the weekends when they weren’t at their other jobs. As the business grew, they hired employees to do the scooping and were left with just running the business.

In September 2005, Angela returned back to work after a 3 month maternity leave. Things all of a sudden started to become increasingly difficult, taking care of a newborn, running a new business and working full-time was taking a toll on all of them.

In April 2006 Angela decided to become a full-time entrepreneur of her own business and quit her other job. She was so excited to be able to have the best of both worlds, stay at home with her family while still working.

Its four years later and Angela still has no regrets about the decision she made to stay at home. At times she struggles with trying to get work done, making bottles and trying to find time to make it to the playground, but she wouldn’t change it for anything!

Fantastic story of how all working moms would like to live. In this day, it is necessary to have multiple incomes and the ‘stay at home mom’ is rarely to be found. I congratulate Angela and Paul in their successful efforts of being both parents and business owners.

Excellent case study. Starting trouble always pushing people back and thus lots of people losing good opportunities to be rich as well as get engaged with right job or business. wish those who reading this story, at least, have a look into any opportunities approaching to them. Congrats – Sherin
