Tell us a little bit about your entrepreneurial journey.
My journey as a mom entrepreneur began in 2005 after the birth of my daughter when I left my job as an advertising associate with a local newspaper to start an online baby boutique.
I loved being an entrepreneur, and while I enjoyed the boutique industry, I realized I was more passionate about design and graphics, and that led to me pursuing my passion as a website designer.
I love working with inspired, creative, and amazing entrepreneurs who’re pursuing their own dreams and aspirations.
How are you making money online?
My primary source of online income comes from my web and graphic design services. However, I also enjoy blogging and recently began accepting sponsored posts.
How are you growing your clients?
I grow my clients by building and nurturing relationships. People like doing business with those they know and trust so it’s so vital that I cultivate relationships that customers can count on. Taking extra care to make them feel important so that they can come to rely on me, and making sure they know they can trust me to have their needs and interests at heart.
What is your number one source of traffic?
Recently Twitter has been my number one source of traffic with Pinterest being second in line.
How many hours do you work a week?
It varies but around 40 hours per week. Lately, I have been working from about 4 am until 12 pm. My schedule changes off and on, but this “summer schedule” seems to be working great for me. I can get a lot done between those hours and can unplug from the Internet to have lunch and spend time with the kids.
How would you rate your success?
I would give myself an 8 out of 10. Technology is always changing, there is still room for improvement, and there is always something new for me to learn.
As a designer, what tips do you have for creating high-quality blog images?
There are lots of factors to consider when creating great blog images. Most importantly, keep it clean and simple. If you are using stock photos, you can use an online photo editor like Canva and add your blog title/text to it. Online Photo editors are great for beginners and are also great for adding your own branding to any of your images. It doesn’t need to be difficult at all.
What is your best advice to moms who are looking to work-from-home?
If you are looking to work-from-home I would:
- Start by making a list of things that you love to do.
- Eliminate those that don’t help solve a problem
- Do your research and make sure there is a market for what you want to do.
- Connect with other WAHM’s they offer amazing support and knowledge.
- Follow websites that specialize in working from home like The Work At Home Woman. These types of sites are loaded with tons of free information to help you get started with your work-at-home journey.
As a mom, how do you manage all of your personal and business activities?
It may sound very cliché, but I use lists for both. That really is about it. I just make sure I have important things that need to be done written down so that I don’t forget. I am really a “go with the flow” type of gal. Every day is different from the one before, and I like being able to get up and go when my kids need a break from the indoors. So far that seems to be working out the best for my family.
What has been your biggest struggle as a home-based entrepreneur?
I have to admit that sometimes it is hard to separate myself from my work. I love what I do and having my office within my home makes it so tempting to work anytime during the day. I have to tell myself “no” all of the time J
