Summer Vacation Reminders

I am blessed!
There are MANY reasons why I feel that I am blessed. My family and I just wrapped up our summer vacation and the entire trip was a reminder of the many blessings in our lives. I am blessed with a wonderful husband and two terrific, healthy children, among many other things.
I am also blessed to be on this adventure we call entrepreneurship, as crazy as it may be some times. I worked sporadically while we were away, but the majority of my time was spent with what matters, my kids and my hubby.
So, now I’m home, recuperating and playing catch up big time. But, I wouldn’t trade my time away or the memories we made for anything! While my vacation reminded my how very blessed I am, it also reminded me of several other things.
Work Doesn’t Vacation: I like to think that I’m still young. I only graduated from college eight years ago! But even then I could never have imagined how far technology would come in such a short amount of time! Because of my laptop, wireless internet and my droid I was able to e-mail, tweet, Facebook and work from the car, my hotel and the beach. I did just enough to stay above water, or I probably would never catch up!
Routine Does a Body Good: Having a routine is good for babies and children, that goes without saying. But as an adult I appreciate routine too. As much as I dreaded leaving the beach, I’m actually glad to get back into a familiar routine. And, a bit of my daily work routine went with me on vacation. Each evening after the kids dozed off I was able to spend a little time reviewing e-mails and updating my blog.
Attention Spans Run Thin: Everybody needs vacation time. While my preschoolers struggled with spending hours in the car at a time, I basked in the glory of some monotony. Eight hours in the car with almost nothing to do was a nice change of pace for me. Although I couldn’t be a long-haul truck driver, staring out the window for a couple days was good for me.
You Can’t Always Follow the Map or Even Read it for That Matter: With GPS in our car and on our phones who would even think to bring along a map? My husband, that’s who. Nothing is fool proof. You can have the best laid plan for your family, your life, your business but sometimes you miss your exit. But, that’s ok! Part of the fun is rising to the occasion and finding your way.
All Good Things Come to an End: Just like vacations and special days, all good things come to an end. But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy them while they last. And, it surely doesn’t mean that there isn’t another good thing right around the corner.
I hope you all have a wonderful, prosperous and productive summer!
