For women who work at home, part of the daily routine includes packing lunches, seeing the little ones to the bus, driving to practice, retrieving them from practice, and making dinner. Oh, and running your business from home fits in there too, right?

Since the phenomenon of working from one’s domicile came about, the question of investing in a nanny despite being at home while working has been brought up.

Tips for Working at Home with a Sick Child

I’m so tired.

For the past two weeks my daughter has been sick. It started off as a little cold and slowly progressed into a severe case of croup. After two trips to the doctor, a misdiagnosis, unneeded antibiotics, and countless sleepless nights we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As a mom you know how difficult it can be to deal a sick child, but when you also work from home it throws a big wrench into your productivity, scheduled activities and tasks.

I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter; I was at a Chinese restaurant waiting for my take-out, when I observed this woman furiously texting away while her young son tugged on her sleeve trying to get her attention. Over and over again he tugged and asked her to look at something, but all she said was “in a minute”. I remember thinking to myself, “I’m never going to be that mom who is totally consumed by her smart-phone that she’s too busy to pay attention to her child”.

Fast forward 6 years…

Just the other day I was taking a nature walk with my daughter and for safety purposes I always bring my cell phone with me. However, as we walked I keep checking my email, Twitter stream and Facebook profile to view the new messages that were coming in – when my daughter said, “Mom, no checking your phone”.
