Controversy is nothing new in the mommy blogging realm. In fact, mom bloggers have been battling each other over monetization, accepting swag, parenting, and social issues for a long time now. But lately, catty comments, unwarranted snarky remarks in blog posts, and negative updates on social media seem to be the trend.

While some individuals will argue that it is their first amendment right (freedom of speech) to say whatever they wish, and while others will argue that controversy is good for “ratings”, these negative interactions could be hurting your overall reputation, or worse yet your ability to get a new job, or to become a successful entrepreneur. If you’ve been having trouble reaching your goals and creating the business and life you desire, odds are you can find several self-sabotaging behaviors ruining your success. Self-sabotage, by definition, is thoughts, feelings and actions that block your success by working against your own self-interests. Only a crazy person would consciously sabotage their own success, right? The thing is you are probably not sabotaging yourself consciously. All of this is happening underneath your radar in your subconscious. In order to stop this the first thing we need to work through is recognizing those self-sabotaging behaviors.

How can you recognize something you are not conscious of? You must first acknowledge that you have self-sabotaging behaviors, recognize which behaviors they are and then have the strength and stamina to look at them and work through them. The e-newsletter. Sometimes you open it and read a couple of articles inside, other times you delete it without a second glance. More often than not, you’re choosing the latter of the two options and usually it’s for the same reasons. The subject header wasn’t engaging. You’ve read a couple of issues in the past and the content was so-so. Maybe the design isn’t all that good either or the font could be hard to read. It could even be for a reason as simple as arriving into your inbox too early in the morning on a Monday.

There’s nothing as disappointing as logging into your Constant Contact account (or any other newsletter template service that you use) and seeing that hardly anyone subscribed on your mailing list opened the letter that you put a lot of time into. But while you might have put plenty of time into your email newsletter, you probably missed out on rubbing a little extra effort into the following areas.
