Tell us a little bit about OGO NYC and how it got started.
I began my career in fashion at the age of 22. As a regional fundraising Director I found myself in need of reasonably priced, high quality, feminine corporate attire. Unable to find youthful wardrobe options, I began altering and eventually designing my own outfits. This led to friends, family, co-workers and clients placing orders. The invaluable experience gained from this inspired me to fulfill my dream and launch my own fashion company, OGONYC which specializes in creating high quality timeless pieces at affordable prices. The brand was a huge success in the United Kingdom which is where it was started and this success has carried on in the United States.
Armed with a Law Degree specializing in human rights and 11 years of fundraising experience, I felt the need to fuse my two worlds of fashion and fundraising together. This birthed our Fashion For Freedom™ movement in 2013.
The reality is the annual global fashion industry revenue is $1.2 trillion, yet 1 in 2 children live without having access to 3 meals a day or clean food and water. OGONYC’s mission is to use high quality timeless pieces sold at affordable prices to transform the lives of children in need across the world.
OGO NYC offers a home-based business opportunity for women – tell us more about this.
We launched our stylist’s network in 2013 as part of the Fashion For Freedom movement™ with the goal of providing women an opportunity to run their own OGONYC Fashion business whilst making a difference in the world. Our belief is that there is tremendous power in numbers. The more people who are involved in driving the cause the more impact we will have globally. Our unique Home-based opportunity provides women a chance to be trained to run their own businesses as freelance wardrobe fashion consultants. This consist of hosting trunks shows in various locations including homes while offering guests free professional styling advice . Our consultants are making a healthy part-time income while knowing they are making a difference in the world!
What are the startup costs for becoming a consultant, and what does it include?
We currently have two packages, the first is the Platinum Kit which is $1,499 (Retail value $7,500) and consists of the entire season limited edition collection. The Gold Kit is $799 (retail value $3,500) containing fifty percent of the entire collection. Both kits contain a professional carryall bag, stylist training collateral, catalogs, and much more.
What has been the most difficult lesson you have learned as an entrepreneur?
The hardest lesson has been accepting that things do not always work exactly as you want it when you want it, no matter the amount of effort you put in. The key has been to remain persistent, having the blind faith that in time all the effort will pay off.
What advice would you give direct sales consultants on how to build a great business?
My key tips would be:
- Have clear goals: Make a list of all your goals. Think clearly and decide what it is you want to get out of the business. You will only arrive at the destination you have already seen!
- Learn your product: Learn every aspect of the company you represent. Understand how every area will work to your advantage.
- Become a student of the direct sales industry. Review what people that have succeeded have to say about it. Learn from the best.
- Read books on success: I highly recommend Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I read that at aged 22 and it was a game changer. The key to succeeding in this industry is your mindset. The quicker you acquire the mindset of successful people the easier the journey becomes to success
- Share the opportunity that lies in your company with people you meet every day. Start with your friends and family. Understand that not everyone will have the same passion as you, but the key is to keep sharing. The right people ALWAYS come along.
How would you rate your success?
It all depends on what you consider as success. We have succeeded in a big way in building the foundation of the brand which is key. However, we have a long way to go to attain our goal. Our goal is to transform the lives of 1 million children worldwide and to become a global brand. We are working on it!
How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?
The truth is my business is so entwined in who I am and my beliefs that it is sometimes difficult to separate the two. Advice that I was given years ago which I try to abide by is when at home be 100% present and when at work be 100% present… The truth is for me this is easier said than done… at least for now. :)
What was your first paying job?
I was 18 years old and worked as telesales rep for a sales company. It was my first experience talking to people nonstop all day. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it and neither could my parents.
