Recent surveys show, that when asked about their dream job, 35 percent of respondents answer is “To own a business” and the most popular reason for wanting to be your own boss is career happiness.
If you turn it upside down, it means that the perfect formula is to build a business around the things we love, our talents, and passions. Then you can do what you truly love every day. And if it pays your bills and allows you freedom, then you have found the dreamland.
I think most of us have wondered why one particular shop or cafe has flourished and another one hasn't. Why one works like a magnet for attracting people, and the other one is not appealing to anyone, even if it has a common theme. I believe that difference is in the true passion of the business owner.
Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” so, even talent starts with passion. If you are passionate about something, it is only natural to try and to learn. Only after time invested in your passion, does it become the collection of skills and knowledge which others call expertise and talent.
Recognizing Your Talents
The tricky thing is, all too often you don't recognize your talents because they come so natural. You live with them every day; you think about them automatically – that often you can't see them. And when friends say, “You have real talent,” we just nod and smile.
Next time, it might be worth listening to what they are saying. There might be a hidden potential for your own business. Or maybe it's worth asking their thoughts on what your talents are. If they all come up with the same thing, then it is obvious, and you just need to explore it. If they are talking about several things then it is even better – you have several talents to choose from!

What Comes Easy to You?
Another way to find your talent is understanding what you really love to do. Often you love to do what comes easy to you; perhaps it is a skill or a talent that you utilize every day.
Many times the first reaction you have, when thinking about owning a business, is that you don't know enough. Many times you only see what's inside the box. Splitting existing skill sets, into a bunch of categories can reveal hidden talents and skills that you didn't see before. And if you can't use anything from your previous professional life, maybe you will need it later down the road in your business. Sooner or later a task will appear and these skills will come back into play.

You may discover that you only have one true passion. But when you think both literally and creatively, you can find that there are numerous roads to travel within the same niche.
Even if you think you don't have a talent – my suggestion is to try. This is how I recently discovered that I could draw. At the age of five, I decided to draw a swan. In my mind I saw it so clearly, so beautiful, and noble. But my hand was drawing ugly lines, that were far from that beauty I had envisioned. So I decided that I would never draw again. Yes, I had to draw in school, but I did it because I had to. A few weeks ago, I decided that drawing would be a good thing to learn, so I started learning and discovered that I could actually do it quite well.
Have you heard that having a passion for something is a much stronger benefit than having a degree in a particular field? Yes, we all have heard of the other version, but many of the big dogs don't have formal education or training, yet they have wildly successful businesses? This is because they have passion and curiosity – now follow yours!
