PART-TIME GIG FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL MOMS
Every Hulafrog website is run by a local mom who works from home. Think Yelp meets Avon. Each local edition is managed by one “Publisher.” Hulafrog provides the tools, training, technology and support. She runs the show locally, earning commissions on advertising sales to local business owners. This is primarily a marketing & sales position and is a great part-time gig for a connected and sales-savvy mom.
What’s In It For You?
1. Work-Life Balance.
Enjoy flexible hours that allow you to work while your kids are in school, and be with them while they’re home. School vacations and kid’s birthday’s off? Check.
2. Rewarding & Challenging Work.
You’ll flex your business brain and rev up your resume. In many ways, running a Hulafrog is like running your own business.
3. Extra Income.
Earn commissions on your local advertising sales. Think of your income as compared to what you might make building a business at a direct sales company like Stella & Dot or Pampered Chef.
4. Exclusivity.
Become the founding Publisher of Hulafrog in your community. The faster Hulafrog expands nationally, the fewer of those opportunities will be around.
5. For Yourself, Not By Yourself.
Work from home, but not alone. You’ll have ongoing training & support from Hulafrog. And inspiration & motivation from your Publisher peers across the country.
6. Growth & Opportunities.
You’ll be part of an energetic, growing company. Hulafrog is a startup on a national growth path. And you’ll be getting in at the ground level.
7. The Best Title Goin’.
Your kids will think you rock. Let’s face it, what’s cooler than being the most in-the-know mom in a ten-mile radius?

How about the charge for Hula Frog? How much is it now? I tried for the Macaroni Kid, but there are publishers in my area and I joined a wait list. Applied for Hula Frog since there is none near me.

Hi Maria,
From what I’ve read online, Hulafrog charges a $200 startup fee.
Keep us posted on what happens =)
Kyrie
I’ve been a Macaroni Kid publisher for almost 7 years. The monthly fee is $59 and covers a great deal, including website maintenance, national opportunities, shared articles, and more. Once you grow your subscriber base to a certain point, the monthly fee is waived (which is what happened for me). Very supportive network.
There is a high turnover in any business that doesn’t have a huge upfront investment. It is easy to walk away from something if you have a bad week when you haven’t invested $10,000. My first year as a publisher, I worked VERY hard to grow my subscriber base and didn’t earn much. But there were tax benefits to being a small business owner and having a home-based business, I really needed the flexibility that Macaroni Kid offers, and I could see the potential for my business. Each year, my income has grown and my workload has lessened … as is usually the case with any new business, including brick-and-mortar businesses.
I am so happy to be able to work with other small businesses in our community and provide an affordable, targeted marketing option for them. Over the years, I have developed real relationships with so many people in our area. I love hearing from other moms that our site has helped them find fun places to go and things to do with their family that they never knew about. Macaroni Kid has given me opportunities I never would have had otherwise, and has been a great solution for my family.

Hi Kyrie,
I’m so glad that you found the perfect business for you!
I completely agree with you — when you don’t have a lot of money invested it’s SOOOO easy to walk away! You have to want it really bad.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

Actually, Macaroni Kid sites only pay a $59 website fee and keep ALL of their advertising proceeds. You get a website full of support to go with it and an amazing group of over 550 publisher moms (and dads) to bounce ideas off with, seasoned publisher mentors, National Campaigns, plus you run your own site with creative license. Families love Macaroni Kid’s dedication to hyper local events and businesses love working with publisher moms that live within the community they share.

Qualified
Hulafrog also discriminates based on where you live. Even if you live in a Nielsen Media Market, which includes outlying cities from a metropolitan center, they will reject you purely based on your home address.

They screen where you live so that they don’t over saturate the market. Lots of companies do this; it’s not discrimination.

Too bad a single work at home woman with no kids at home is not eligible for such position. :(

Macaroni Kid also has a home publishing option: http://national.macaronikid.com/becomepublishermom/

Both Macaroni Kid and Hulafrog charge $100 a month to publisher on their network. They have very high turnover

Kelly,
Not true. I ran a Hulafrog site from March, 2016 through August, 2017 and I was not charged $100/month. I loved the position, earned plenty of revenue for the time I put in, and most importantly, it served as a stepping stone to the flexible Digital Content Specialist job I have now. For someone who wants to learn marketable skills and eliminate the gap in their resume, Hulafrog can be an excellent option. My experience was fantastic.

Macaroni Kid does not charge $100 per month, and has a low turn-over rate. We have publishers that have been around since the beginning. Those that do leave, find they have gained valuable training and experience they can use in the work force. Some keep doing it, even after they have another job, because they love it so much!
Publisher get to keep all of their local ad revenue, get other opportunities to make money through campaigns, and get training and support through HQ and all the other wonderful publishers. An added perk it all the great activities they get to attend, and opportunities to go on trips, that they might never been able to do otherwise.
