Final Book Club Discussion – “Women, Work & The Art of Savoir Faire”
Welcome to The Work at Home Woman’s Business Book Club!
Today is the final discussion for “Women, Work & The Art of Savoir Faire” by Mireille Guiliano. This book imparts business and career tips, advice and strategies for women. With that said, let’s get the discussion rolling…
Question 1: On page 156 it says, it takes 4 support legs to support work-life balance. “These four elements are: 1)good health, 2) a functional social network of friends and family, 3) a solid employment situation, and 4) time, space, principles, and polices for yourself. They work together, interacting in sometimes mysterious ways. And some stronger anchors can compensate for weaker ones, but the stress will become apparent then. Lose one of the anchors and you are left twisting in the wind and out of balance”. Have you found this 4 support legs theory to be true in your life? How do keep balance? more
The Importance of Social Networking
By Angela Bickford
I’ve been talking to a lot of wonderful women I’ve met on Twitter about social networking, and there’s one thing we all tend to agree on. It’s not about the numbers; it’s about the relationships you build.
The best definition I have come across to define social networking is from the site What Is?:
“Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one’s business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals.”
Connections. Not more followers, or fans, or blog readers. But true, honest connections. Now, does this mean I have to talk to, reach out to, reply to, comment on, etc. with every one of my social connections? No. That would be impossible. Learn who your repeat commentators are and engage with them. Try to take some time to recognize when people reach out to you, except of course when it’s spam. :-) more
Interview with Kim Kayajan of Monogrammed-Gifts.com
Tell us a little bit about Monogrammed-Gifts.com and how you got started.
I started Monogrammed-Gifts just before I had my first child. The company I was working for was changing hands so it was a perfect time for me to make a transition.
What did you do before launching Monogrammed-Gifts.com?
I worked for a company that sold business promotional products. I worked in the customer service area but my main role was to manage the website and web marketing. Essentially I’m still in the same line of work, but now my focus is on personalized gifts instead of promotional products.
