It is unlikely that you started your blog with the hopes that nobody would read it. Maybe some people do, but that’s just because some people are weird. Starting a blog and putting your writings on the Internet by definition means you want people to find and read them. Why not give them a hand? There are certain things you can do to make your writing and your blog reach a larger audience by improving the ranking of the blog in the major search engines. Here are 5 plugins that, when implemented properly, will help you to improve your rankings.

All In One SEO Pack – The granddaddy of SEO plugins, this plugin allows you to get your blog seen by both people and search engines. Automatically creates meta-tags on the posts you make as well as allow you to establish meta-tags and even meta-titles that you would like added to the post. Updated often, it is valuable to the experienced and inexperienced blogger alike.

SEO Smart Links – This plugin will create interlinks on your blog for you. What that means is once you set up the features and details that you would like, it creates links from posts on your blog to other posts on your blog. Google loves to see link nets inside of a webpage and may well boost your ranking in their search engine as a result. Also, the internal links are counted as links. Last week Holly Klaassen was kind enough to let me review a copy of her E-book, 50 SEO Secrets for Mom Entrepreneurs. I’ve taken another search engine optimization (SEO) course in the past, so I figured that I would know a great deal of the information that was presented in the book, but figured I could still gain a couple of new tips. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a wealth of SEO information that I’ve been able to use on a daily basis.

Holly’s 60 page E-book isn’t filled with technical SEO jargon, but instead it contains 50 easy to understand tips for how to increase traffic to your website. She starts off by introducing a few key definitions and then delves right into the SEO secrets. Holly recommends “first reading through the entire book, and then focusing on one secret each day for the next 50 days. Some secrets will take more than one day to implement, but some will take as little as 5 minutes”.

Since I’ve read the book, I’ve been able to implement a few of Holly’s SEO secrets, and so far I’m very impressed! A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my Google page rank went from a three to a two. I couldn’t figure out why this happened; I thought perhaps I wasn’t using enough key words on my home page. After reading Holly’s book, I implemented secret number 23 and my Google page rank immediately jumped from a two to a three. (more…)
