Buyer Beware – 03-26-2015
Over the past couple of months, I’ve received numerous complaints about Elizabeth’s business practices. I reached out to her via email, but she has not responded. It seems like she started out strong, but something along the way has changed and boots are no longer being shipped even though payment has been received. I have removed all links to Elizabeth’s store and social media accounts, as I do not want anyone to be ripped off by this company.
There is also a Facebook Page dedicated to a lawsuit against Elizabeth Anne LeGear and her company.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your entrepreneurial journey.
Thanks for having me on The Work At Home Woman! Myself, I’ve always been inspired by strong, independent women like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi. I’ve learned so much from other women in business and I admire and respect anyone who does things on their own terms. When it comes to beliefs, I really value freedom and choice more than anything in the world. My goal is to continue to expand my businesses and teach others to do the same.
I was inspired to start Purse n’ Boots about 4 years ago after reading the 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. It was one of the most influential books I’ve ever read. It was the spark I needed to start looking for ways to start working for myself; I knew that I wanted more freedom than the 9-5 could offer me. I started putting my accounting background to good use by starting my own bookkeeping business. That gave me the freedom to set my own hours and start my passion project, Elizabeth Anne Shoes.
The “purse for your feet” concept was born out of my consistent ability to lose things after a few cocktails. “Where are my keys? I lost my phone” from Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ summed me up perfectly. Knee-high boots have always been a wardrobe staple of mine so I started keeping things in my boots. It worked okay until the bartender would give me $8 in change and I would dance so hard the phone would jump out. It was during this time that Purse n’ Boots was born.
What did you do before launching your own business?
Before Purse n’ Boots I used to be an accountant. I worked in the Financial Services sector for many years full-time with a full-time course load in the evenings. When I finished school I thought I would be in full celebration mode, only I just kept thinking, “Did I want to THIS for the rest of life”? It’s an unnerving choice to leave behind a perfectly good career but it was a choice that was very worth it.
How did you fund your business?
Most of the funding for Elizabeth Anne Shoes came from my savings; however, I was also lucky enough to partner with some really wonderful friends & family. I would not have been able to go ahead with the project without them.
How many hours do you work a week and how much is spent in your home office?
I work about 20 hours a week with Elizabeth Anne Shoes and about 15 hours a week with my bookkeeping business. I like to move around the house a lot. I’ll maybe work the morning in my office and the afternoon on the couch with my afternoon latte. The laptop usually follows me to bed also.
How would you rate your success?
I rate my success by the number of energetic, enthusiastic responses I receive to the Purse n’ Boots concept; I am humbled watching how quickly the word keeps spreading and thrilled to know there are so many great women out there wearing these boots.
I also celebrate every victory, no matter how small. It reminds me to benchmark my progress on where I used to be and not where I’d ideally like to be. I feel it’s one aspect of success that is critical for anyone running their own business.
What has been your biggest business struggle as an entrepreneur?
My biggest struggle was learning to take a break from looking at the big picture. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when you’re sitting at the start line looking up at this huge mountain that is your new business. I found uncertainty, an endless list of tasks, what-ifs, and some self-doubt. However, I find when I take a break from the totality of the project and just focus on each task without any attachment to the outcome, the challenge seems so much more achievable.
What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?
My advice would be to just get started and learn along the way. It’s easy to get caught up in making everything perfect for launch day but I’ve found things accelerate much quicker without any hesitation. The truth is we’re going to make mistakes either way, so it’s better to get a head start and just get started.
How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?
I only think of one thing at a time. If I’ve decided to go to yoga in the afternoon, I don’t bring any work-related thoughts with me. If I decide Sunday is my day off then I am 100% not allowed to touch the computer or the Blackberry. It helps me stay committed and productive in the hours that I need to work and helps me to truly enjoy my relax time without feeling guilty over any extra work that I think I could get done. I work to live and not the other way around.

This company is FRAUDULENT. I purchased back in 9/14 and NEVER received product. No refund and e-mails haven’t been returned for four months now! DO NOT BUY!!!
Elayne Mesman
This woman stole $350 from me & never sent my boots!! Almost a year later & no refund!! I hope they find her & throw her in jail, she is a criminal!!
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
Sorry to hear that, Elayne.
Denise
totally a rip off. ordered August 2014. run around for a year and now they have stopped responding. there is a group starting a lawsuit and I have sent info to our local ‘consumer crime’ tv personality. I hope his sleuthing creates some action.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
Sorry to hear this, Denise. Keep us posted in a lawsuit ensues.
Jill
This just makes me sick. I am out over $300 since September 2014 and nothing I can do about it. Sad part is, I really, really loved the boots. Ugh!!!
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
Sorry to hear that Jill =(
Lynn Hackwell
She stole $269.98 from me in 2014 with a promise to deliver my boots. I’ve never seen the boots or a refund. Horrible, disgusting person to rip so many people off!
Holly Reisem Hanna
I’m sorry to hear that, Lynn.
Carissa
Thank you so much for posting a warning. I ordered the boots in August 2014 as an anniversary present and to date have never received the boots. I asked for a refund and they cancelled my order but have not refunded my money. In my research recently I have found there are hundreds of people who have fallen for their scam. I am so sick for all of us who fell for this. Their Facebook advertisements and internet website looked so legitimate.

Same story here! Elizabeth Anne shoes will take your money the same day and never send you boots. Almost 8 months later here and I have still not received my refund promised in February nor have I received boots. I should mention I also said I would accept an alternative pair or boots when they offered but they have been unable to provide that as well.
Please save yourselves the headache.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
Sorry to hear that Jennifer.

*us a refund…the links from *your site…refunded all *our money…Grammar seems to fly out the window when I’m heated. ;) but I’m sure you get the general idea.

I too have been scammed by Ms Elizabeth Anne LeGear. Just got off the phone with our bank and they will be issuing is a refund. Let her “company” deal with the insurance. Thank you for removing her links from her sight.
You know, if she had just owned up to the fact that the boots are probably never coming and canceled/refunded all out money, I’d still respect her for trying to do the right thing.
I looked her up online. The crook, lives in a fancy highrise apartment in Vancouver! Enjoy it while it lasts, sweetheart!
Wally McLendon
Ordered DEC 2nd and nothing as of April 1st but empty promises and 15 different excuses from they changed the manufacturer, shipped them by boat incorrectly, and three weeks ago that they were possibly coming in FIVE Months after they were ordered for Christmas. These people should be in jail.
Ellen V Schauffler
Elizabeth Anne Shoes is nothing but an online scam. I ordered and paid for the boots in July 2014. By September the excuses started…orders were on a ship rather than a plane, problems at customs, manufacturing problems…on and on. Although they appear to be incapable of issuing a refund, they had no problem charging me for the imaginary boots!!! It is outrageous…I hope law enforcement in BC catches up with this scam artist.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
I hate hearing this … Ellen and Wally — have you tried contacting your credit card company? I know Visa offers some buyer protection — not sure of all the details. Worth a shot. Keep us posted.
Carissa
I was scammed by them too! Unfortunately they charge you for the boots as soon as you order them and never send them. After 90 days Visa will no longer help you get your money back and since the company tells you the boots are backordered way past 90 days you are out of luck! They are still advertising on Facebook and when anyone posts something negative they delete the comments. I have waited all my life to buy a pair of boots like this and was totally scammed. I feel sick about it. Thank you for posting a warning.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
I’m so sorry to hear this, Carissa. =(

My story is very similar to Ms. Patania’s story above. I was so excited about the boots when I read about them and was even more excited to help a small business grow and be successful. I place my order for boots in July and was told to expect them by November 2014. I received one email in September stating there had been a delay and to expect the boots at the end of December 2014. I was disappointed but figured I could wait another month for the boots I ordered. However, December came and went so I sent an email asking if the delivery was coming soon. I received a reply that the production had once again been delayed and to expect them in February. This is when I became frustrated and asked for a refund on my purchase. They said they would refund the amount however, it has been over 2 months and I still have not seen the credit back to my account for the purchase. I will do as the lady above and file a formal complaint with the BBB in Canada and the FTC. Hopefully by spreading the word on their unacceptable business practices someone else won’t make the same mistake and lose their money on boots that will never come.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
I’m so sorry to hear about your negative experience.
Carman O'Quinn
Thank you, Holly. I did contact my bank and they issued a credit to my account for the charge even though it has been almost 9 months since I placed the original order. By being able to supply them with the email chain of promised delivery and then the promised refund when the boots were not received they accepted the claim and refunded the charge.
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
So glad you were able to get your money back!
Missy Patania
I think you should be aware and advise the
I ordered the “Purse n Boots” thru a company called Elizabeth Anne Shoes owned by Elizabeth Anne LeGear from Calgary in October 2014 with the understanding that I would receive them in December 2014 in time for the Holidays. They charged me $ 269.98. December came around and I have gotten no confirmation or communication on the status or delay of my shipment which, is in violation of the the FTC’s Internet Shopping Refund Laws, I emailed them and did receive a response advising me that they were having customs delay issues. That I would receive them in Jan. 2015. January, 2015 came around and once again I emailed only to get another delay respone that I would receive them in Feb. 2015. Well, February rolled around and I am sure you can guess what happened. So, I decided to cancel my order. They cancelled the order for me and advised they would immed. Process a refund and that it would take 15 days to appear on my credit card. Last week I emailed to locate the refund as nothing had appeared on my credit card statement. They advised I should have received it and that they would begin an investigation…..I have not heard anything back from them and have requested an update daily all to be unanswered. I have filed a complaint with both the BBB in Canada as well as the FTC. I have also attempted to make people aware via Elizabeth Anne Shoes facebook site however, they delete all negative comments, which, there were more than mine on there, so that they continue to look as though they are a reputable company.
There is no recourse for a consumer past 90 days (120 at the most under extenuating circumstances) with their credit card companies as that is the statute of limitations in filing a dispute.
Please protect the consumers that are dependant on your website’s reputation as your organization is being used to further promote their activities.

I have had the same exact experience, Ordered boots in Sept and they charged me 229 immediately. 4 months later still no boots and lots of excuses. Aksed for a refund in Feb, they said they will, still no refund and they are “always looking into it” but nothing. Banks can’t do a thing after 120 days, so I am just out my money. Unbelievable. I have never dealt with such horrible business practices. They will not answer a phone call ever. DO NOT DO BBUSINESS with them :(
Holly - The Work at Home Woman
Thanks for commenting. Hopefully, we can prevent others from being ripped off.

Do not order from this company! Please do the research.
Here is a link to another favorable review of the boots, but check out the comments:

Hey Jennifer,
Did you too, have a bad experience?
Carole Bennett
Love the Purse’n’Boots concept! I’m a boots-if-possible girl myself, and have stashed a wallet in them before – this is brilliant!
Holly Hanna
I love wearing boots too – I just don’t get to do it very often, because it’s too hot here in Texas. Absolutely love this concept!
