Interview with She-E-O’s Shivani & Neha Gupta of Sama Baby

Do you work at home?

We work at home, on the road, and in between! We are always busy with Sama events, meetings, and travel. But yes we both have home offices.

How many children do you have?

None yet, but Shivani will be first!

How many hours do you work a week?

Wow, a million. We each work as much as possible to keep the business thriving. About 60 hours on average.

Tell us a little bit about Sama Baby Organics and how you got started.

Two young, female entrepreneurs who are dedicated to creating a product that makes a difference started Sama Baby. We offer organic and fashion-forward children’s garments to conscientious parents. Our 100% certified organic cotton comes from India, and is the softest, most luxurious in the market. Our products are fair trade, and our farmers use organic vegetables as their rotation crop. This rotation replenishes the soil, feeds the workers, and benefits the environment. What differentiates us: we are 100% organic through and through, we aren’t a conventional cotton line that has added on organics.  We want to be THE organic line offered in children’s boutiques around the country. more

Final Book Club Discussion – The Mommy Manifesto

Happy Friday! Today is the final Business Book Club discussion for Kim Lavine’s, “The Mommy Manifesto. One thing I have to say about this book is that I love Kim’s honesty and vulnerability- she really has a way of motivating and inspiring women! Once again I had so many yellow highlighted areas in my book that it was difficult to formulate just a few questions.

With that said I’m so excited to get the discussion rolling and hear your thoughts about the book!

Question 1: In chapter 6 Kim says, “In the world of social networking, a “friend” has a whole different meaning than in the real world, and some people collect friends just to demonstrate popularity” (page 118) – what are your thoughts?

Question 2: In chapter 7 Kim says, that confidence is the X factor and that you should fake it until you make it (page 138) – do you agree? more

Tips For Becoming a PR Friendly Blogger

By Holly Reisem Hanna

I am constantly receiving questions from new bloggers on how they can start their own review or PR friendly blog. Here on The Work at Home Woman, I do review business and career related products, but since my niche is more focused I end up turning a lot of PR companies away. For this reason, I decided t0 recruit a couple of savvy mom bloggers from the blogging community and get their input on how to become a PR Friendly Blogger.

So today I have Amy Oztan from the blog, Selfish Mom and I also have Amy Bellgardt from the blog, Mom Spark, here’s what they had to say…

Holly – How did you get into PR blogging?

Amy Oztan – It was totally accidental.  I had been blogging on someone else’s site about my brownstone renovation for a couple of years, and because of that a friend of mine recommended me to the NYCMomsBlog.  From that website I started getting opportunities to work with brands, but writing about them were against the rules of the NYCMomsBlog, so I started SelfishMom.com.  At first it was just a hobby – my “real” blog was FilmingInBrooklyn.com, which I started around the same time as SelfishMom – but I discovered that I really liked writing about products and doing reviews. This really wasn’t too surprising, since I was always the person that everyone would go to pre-blog for recommendations.  I always had a subscription to Consumer Reports and would research products for friends and family. more

How to Solve the 10 Biggest Career Reinvention Mistakes

By Randi Bussin

Part One: Mistakes One Through Five

Career reinvention can be a difficult and lengthy process, especially if you are unprepared. Before you begin your career reinvention, consider these commonly made mistakes and how to solve them. Avoiding these potential pitfalls may help make your reinvention as smooth and successful as possible.

1. Quitting your job without having a plan. A successful career reinvention can take months, even with a clearly defined strategy. Without planning, you may find yourself in limbo for a significantly longer period of time. Don’t take the leap until you have clearly determined what steps you are going to take to change careers and how long you expect to be without a paycheck. more
