One of the most frequent questions I receive is, “How can I make money by creating YouTube videos?” While I know the basics of how to do it, creating YouTube videos is not my forte.
So I’m excited to announce this week’s work-at-home woman, Judy Travis. Not only does Judy have over a million YouTube subscribers, but she’s making millions from her videos!
Read on to find out how she’s doing it.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your entrepreneurial journey.
I started making YouTube videos in 2008 for my passion for makeup. When I finally made YouTube Partner a couple of years later, I started to earn money and eventually made enough to make it a full-time career.
Seven years later, I now have four YouTube channels where I get to share what I’m passionate about through beauty videos, daily vlogs, a Spanish translation channel, and currently my biggest passion … sharing my experiences as a mom on my mommy v-log.
What types of videos do you create?
Generally, my videos focus on product reviews and hauls as well as tutorials on how to use the product(s). I also have a daily vlog and a dedicated mommy channel where I discuss all things about being a new mom.
Do you use any special software or tools to create your videos?
I use Final Cut Pro X on my MacBook Air to edit my videos. To record my beauty videos, I use a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), and for my daily vlogs, I use a Canon s120 digital camera.
How do you make money on YouTube?
YouTube has a profit share model where they split the revenue from the Google ads that run on your videos. Another popular way to make money on YouTube is by brand sponsorships of products or services.

What tips do you have for growing your YouTube subscriber base?
Upload videos that you are passionate about keep uploading consistently and value your audience’s attention.
What do you believe has contributed to your success?
Having a supportive husband and family first. They have been there since the beginning to help in any way I needed and now with being a new mother; they help to provide me time to focus on my work. Also, my viewers have been able to connect with me and grow, along with experiences in my life.
How are you currently growing your business?
I am focusing on connecting with mommies through my mommy channel and working with brands and companies that I feel would benefit my viewers.
What advice do you have for other women who want to start their own moneymaking YouTube channel?
Don’t focus on the money. Follow your heart and lead with what you are passionate about. When you let money motivate you, it can affect your content negatively. Trust in what you know, create great content, and the money will come.
Thanks to Judy Travis for sharing her story!
Do you have to allow comments on your videos? And if so, how do you keep the comments section from becoming a place where people are pouring hatred, etc.?
I believe you can turn comments off. But if you do have them on, you’ll need to monitor them for spam and what not.
