This past week I had the pleasure of checking out the ClaudiaG home business opportunity. The ClaudiaG Collection consists of leather handbags, chic jewelry and accessories – so if you love fashion you'll want to check this out.
In fact, I took the Luminous Tote on my Cancun trip and I received so many compliments on it. It's a great size for a beach bag or every day use. You could even use it as a laptop bag – it's so versatile.
So tell you a little bit more about this home business opportunity we have ClaudiaG's founder, Claudia Gutierrez.
Hi, I'm Claudia. I’m originally from Colombia and have lived in Houston, Texas, for over 15 years. Upon completing my studies in Business Administration at St. Thomas University, I got my MBA in 2004 and accepted a position with JP Morgan Chase, starting a successful career in banking.
I was always curious about activities that included design and craftsmanship. Growing up in a region of the Colombian Caribbean infused with the natural beauty of the sea and its tropical climate and inspired by the creative process of the artisans and the richness of the colors and materials, I naturally evolved to handbag and accessory design.
I began selling to women around me, and based on their fantastic reaction I soon realized I could offer the same opportunity to others as a way of gaining financial independence without sacrificing the responsibilities and joys of family life and community involvement.
This was the genesis of ClaudiaG, focused on offering remarkable products through a platform that helps empower women by providing opportunities for personal growth and financial independence, and building a sustainable means to give back to the community.
I believe my calling is to help others. My passion is design; my training is in business. I'm excited to have the opportunity of putting all this together in a company that offers a fantastic product at a great value and through a model that enables and empowers others to make a significant and sustainable impact in their lives. We live this dream every day.
Tell us a little bit about your direct sales company, ClaudiaG, and how it got started.
ClaudiaG is a brand of boutique-style beautifully handcrafted and sophisticated handbags, versatile accessories and on-trend jewelry. As a wife and mother, I know firsthand of the challenges of juggling a career, family, and personal life, so ClaudiaG’s social selling model through independent consultants is meant to provide opportunities for personal growth and financial independence to women while building a sustainable means to give back to the community.
I always had a passion for jewelry and handbags and from a very young age, I knew I had to incorporate it somehow into my career. I started making my jewelry and selling it to friends and family, and soon enough I was selling it in boutiques around the country. In 2014, I attended a conference about direct sales, which inspired me to embrace this business model as the way to enable other women to take control of their careers. So, I decided to completely change the ClaudiaG business model repositioning the company for strong future growth with female entrepreneurs joining throughout the country. We are the only company in the direct sales industry offering a full and complete line of genuine leather handbags, all exquisitely designed in exclusive limited editions and complemented with gorgeous accessories and jewelry.
How did you fund your business?
I started this along with my very supportive husband with our savings and reaching out to friends and family. It has been an incredible experience and along the way we have been fortunate to receive funding from a couple of Angel Investors. We have been growing steady and solid.
Did you have previous experience in sales or the direct selling industry?
No, I didn’t! I had to walk in the consultant’s shoes first and did many trunk shows myself before asking others to join me. This has been a wonderful experience as I have discovered and seen firsthand how this industry changes the lives of people who are willing to do the work. It’s my opinion that this is the only industry in which you get paid in proportion to your work – you design your income at your pace.
ClaudiaG offers a work-at-home business opportunity for women – tell us more about this.
The beautiful aspect of the ClaudiaG opportunity is the flexibility it provides women. More than ever, women are finding they can have the best of both worlds: a lucrative career and income while still being able to put their personal needs or family priorities first. Many of our consultants already work other full-time jobs, stay home with children, are full-time students or are retired already. An opportunity like ours provides them with the flexibility to work when and how often they want without having to sacrifice the important things in life.
What are the startup costs for becoming a ClaudiaG Consultant and what does the startup kit include?
As with any new business, you start there is an investment up front. With ClaudiaG, the consultant sees a return on their investment almost immediately. There are three kits available for consultants to get started ranging from $199 to $599. All consultant kits currently average a 65% savings and include everything necessary to start their own business: a selection of handbags, jewelry, and accessories plus promotional materials such as hostess and opportunity brochures, customer order forms and catalogs. You can even add personalized business cards as well as live training and support!
What advice would you give to a new consultant on how to build a successful business?
Just as with any “day job,” you get paid when you show up and work. The same holds true with entrepreneurship. You have to work your business to get paid, but the beauty of having your own business is you get to work the hours you want.
Also, the more people you share your business and products with the more success you will have. Sharing your excitement is contagious; when you are excited, others will want to be a part of that excitement as well whether as a customer, hostess or team member.
The important thing to remember as a new consultant building your business is that you can earn as you learn. You don’t have to know everything all at once – just take it one day at a time and learn something new each day and apply it to your business to keep growing. The only way to fail is when you quit and give up.
As a busy mom, wife, and entrepreneur how do you manage it all?
I first lead by example. As a mom and wife, I want to show our field that you can’t do it all by yourself and to make sure that you always take time out for family and the important things in life. No success in business is worth it at the expense of your family or loved ones. It’s important to prioritize on a weekly and monthly basis of what needs to be accomplished first and be sure to plan your time around other personal priorities you have.
Occasionally, I may have to miss or be late for a family engagement; it doesn’t happen that often, but when it does it’s for good reason. My children and husband also understand this is a family business. What I do every day I also do for them to create a better life for us and show them that no matter what you set your mind to you can accomplish with hard work, commitment and the desire to help others. We pass down this lifestyle knowledge to our consultants as well; showing them you can have it all with the proper planning and preparation.
What has been your biggest struggle as an entrepreneur?
My biggest struggle has been to find that balance where I can have the family life I dreamt of and at the same time, build a business and have a successful career. I love working every day, but I was not ready to give up my family life for a career. Now I understand that it’s possible, and the direct sales industry is the perfect avenue for women like myself who want to do it all. I enjoy being able to manage my time and never miss my kid’s soccer games. I found a way to enjoy a very fulfilling life, and I want to share it with women who are in a similar situation. Through ClaudiaG, I want to empower women to find that work-life balance and provide them with the opportunity to experience it for themselves.
