Recently, my husband went away on a work trip, and I was amazed at how tired I was from assuming all of his roles and responsibilities here at the house. For seven days straight, it was all on me. Household chores, errands, child care, school stuff, appointments, events — it was all on my shoulders.
For military spouses, this is nothing new. They deal with all of this responsibility for extended periods of time, plus, they have the added stress of worrying about the safety and well-being of their spouse. I seriously, can not even wrap my head around how difficult it must be.
That's why today's post is focusing on work from home companies that hire military spouses (and veterans). With all that you already have on your plate, you don't need to be taking any time away from your family so that you can earn an income.
Luckily, the veteran and military spouse work initiative put out by Barack Obama back in 2011 has seen tremendous success. More and more companies are now offering work from home jobs, discounts, and training for military spouses and veterans.

Work From Home Companies That Offer Veterans and Military Spouses Jobs
Aetna is a well-known, Fortune 100 insurance company. They employee 50,000 people in many roles, including full and part-time telecommuting jobs. These work from home positions include case managing, underwriting, and customer service opportunities. Aetna prides itself on working with military veterans, even helping align positions with veterans’ skills. They were even voted as one of the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers. They also have a military resource group, AetVet, to assist military veteran employees with questions or concerns.
Amazon focuses on providing flexible opportunities for military spouses to work from home, so they can keep their job even if they’re faced with frequent relocations. Telecommuting opportunities give spouses the ability to take care of their families and stay-at-home while enjoying the great benefits of working with Amazon. Many of the work from home jobs are customer-service based, yet there are also work from home opportunities in project management, software development, and recruiting.
Financial services giant, Capital One, provides many military-friendly job opportunities. They have a Military Associate Network to offer support, associate recruiting, and career guidance. They provide military members with time off for training and active duty, on-leave job security, and uninterrupted benefits. Capital One helps military members translate their special military skills into civilian professional qualifications and they were voted a Top 100 Military Employer. Work from home opportunities at Capital One include customer service positions, analysis, and data science roles.
Convergys has been recognized for hiring military members, veterans, and their spouses, including over 5,000 in the last two years. They offer work-at-home opportunities with competitive benefits, employee discounts, easy transfer and move options, as well as flexible schedules. Convergys offers work from home positions in the healthcare industry, customer service, and sales. They also offer training and opportunities for growth.
Computer technology company, Dell provides veterans with many job opportunities and they even offer an Employee Resource Support Group. They support military employees who are called to active duty and also help veterans find the right position to translate their military skills to civilian life. Through their work from home opportunities, they provide military spouses with jobs that can be done anywhere their spouse is deployed. Many of these telecommuting jobs are in marketing, customer service, and support.
Enterprise Holdings is a rental car company providing transitional jobs, management training, and work from home opportunities to military members and their spouses. They were honored by U.S. Veterans Magazine as being a Top Veteran-Friendly Company and are proud of their history of commitment to the U.S. Military. Enterprise work-at-home jobs are mainly focused in their customer service division, assisting customers with their rentals and helping them with any concerns.
Hilton has committed to hire 20,000 veterans by 2020 through an initiative to hire veterans and their families called Operation Opportunity. The Hilton commitment to veterans has been a long legacy, beginning with founder Conrad Hilton, a veteran of World War I. Hilton helps veterans bring their strong values to the company and translate their skills into many roles. Work from home opportunities with the hospitality giant includes customer service, reservations, and administrative opportunities.
The insurance company, Humana has long worked in the U.S. Military’s TRICARE program, administering healthcare benefits for more than 6 million active military members and their families. They’ve enacted a hiring initiative to hire over 500 military service members and their spouses annually. They list many work-from-home opportunities in customer service, care coordination, and client sales. They also list jobs available for bilingual employees and those with medical backgrounds.
Global financial services company, JPMorgan Chase & Co. has committed $45 million to veteran’s programs and initiatives since 2014. They provide internships, training, and career progression programs for military members and veterans. JPMorgan offers work from home positions for those experienced in the banking industry including mid-level roles. They offer competitive pay, benefits and retirement packages.
Insurance company Progressive provides military families with great flexibility and opportunities. They offer 100 percent differential pay to active-duty members and reservists if their basic pay is less than the hourly rate at Progressive. They provide continuing medical benefits, dedicated leave, and benefits support. They also offer easy transfer for military members and their spouses at any of their 400 locations across the company. Customer service positions offer work from home flexibility, full-time hours and competitive pay.
SYKES is a digital marketing and customer service outsourcing company, serving many different companies and industries. As part of the White House’s Joining Forces Initiative, they’ve focused on hiring several thousand military members and their spouses. Through their Home Jobs division, they offer many telecommuting roles to accommodate military spouses.
Travelers recruits and hires military service members and their spouses including during their quarterly hiring event MOJO (Military Officers Job Opportunities). They’re an AcademyWoman partner focused on providing leadership opportunities to women, including those in the military. They’re also funders of Team Rubicon and partner with American Corporate Partners, an organization that helps returning veterans discover their future career. Work from home and telecommuting positions are found listed on FlexJobs and include a wide-range of opportunities such as underwriter, customer service, training consultant, and auditor.
Moving company U-Haul partners with several veterans’ support organizations and non-profits including Soldier Ride. They were ranked #13 of the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers and partner with the Army PaYS program. Their remote jobs include customer service positions in sales and reservations. These positions provide flexibility, competitive pay, and training.
USAA serves military members and their families with insurance, credit, and banking services. Because of their close work with the military, they’re a premier military employer as well. Telecommuting positions are available in fraud prevention, analysis, customer service, appraisals, and many other areas. Many of the positions do require employees to live within traveling distance of a corporate office (AZ, CO, FL, MD, NY or TX), but they offer flexibility and accommodations for the unique needs of military spouses.
Verizon was ranked as the #1 Military Friendly company with over 11,000 veterans employed. They have a Military Spouse Talent Network and actively recruit members of the military for open positions. Verizon provides work from home positions for military families within commuting distance to their Alpharetta, GA office. These customer service and support positions provide training, competitive salary, and flexible shifts.
Financial services company, Wells Fargo has a commitment to recruiting and hiring veterans. They also report a 54 percent retention rate of employing service members for over five years. They offer reemployment and job search assistance for military members as well as their spouses if they need to go on leave or relocate due to deployment. Wells Fargo lists many of their telecommuting jobs on FlexJobs, with a wide range of full and part-time opportunities.
Through the Heroes@Home program, Xerox provides veterans and their spouses with home employment opportunities. The company is proud of their recognition of the unique skill sets veterans and military members bring to the table and they actively recruit veterans and their spouses. The work from home jobs include customer service, help desk, system development, and leadership roles.
The Military Spouse Employment Partnership is a program to connect businesses with military spouses. This program allows easy transition between partner employers, accommodations for leaves, absences, and relocation. Businesses who are part of the partnership are committed to supporting military spouses. Around 100 companies are partnered with the program to provide training, outreach and recruiting for military spouses. Through the MSEP portal, military spouses can access job listings and use resume and cover letter templates. MSEP also offers job counseling and career advice.
Business Opportunities That Support Military Families
Arise trains individuals to run micro call centers, using a virtual platform, and at-home workers. They partner with small businesses run by military members and their spouses to help them learn how to work from home and how to expand their business. They offer a 50 percent discount on client certification training and provide you with a plan to work from home and be your own boss.
LiveOps is a cloud-based call center that provides customer service and support to companies in many industries, including retail, insurance, and healthcare. They provide a flexible and supportive environment for military spouses and veterans to work as independent agents. Set your own schedule and use a portable virtual office to work anywhere.
Longaberger is a direct sales business opportunity that is flexible and portable for military families. They offer special military support and the ability to set your own hours and work on your own schedule. Longaberger reps earn 25-35 percent commission sales of housewares, baskets, and pottery. The normal startup kit price is $350 — but for members of our Armed Forces and their spouses, they offer a free starter kit that comes with a website, online training, tools and other perks and support for military spouses.
Discounted Career Training and Resources for Military Spouses and Veterans
Career Step helps active duty military members, veterans, and their spouses receive job training to launch them into a new career. Classes and certifications are available online, so it’s easy to do the work on your own schedule from wherever you're located. They offer programs for medical billing and coding, veterinary assisting, medical transcription, and many other fields. The paid membership site, FlexJobs provides a platform and resource for military spouses looking for flexible job opportunities. They list part-time, freelance, full-time, and flexible positions on the site and they also provide a wealth of articles, links, and resources for military spouses pursuing jobs from home.
