44 Ways to Make Money Blogging

44 Ways to Make Money BloggingBy Holly Reisem Hanna

When I began my blogging journey, I knew that I wanted to monetize my blog. I started off with direct ad sales which did really well, but I only had 7 spaces for image ads which greatly hindered how much I made. So I decided to add Google Adsense (ad network) to the mix and this too did well, until my site was hacked and I was banned from Google Adsense for invalid click activity which was not my doing. Again, I needed to diversify my income stream, this time I focused on affiliate marketing.

As you can see things are constantly changing on the web, and if you want to make it as a monetized blogger, you need to heavily diversify your revenue streams. While direct ad sales and ad networks are great places to start, you’ll want to make sure that your eyes are open to all of the different opportunities out there.

Here are 44 ways you can earn income with your blog:

Sponsored Blog Content

Blogvertise allows you to make money by placing sponsored blog content, text links, social conversations, and banner ad on your blog. You have the ability to choose which campaigns you promote. Most tasks pay $4 – $25 and payments are made via PayPal 30 days after your assigned task has been approved. Payout rates will vary and will depend on the quality of your work and the popularity of your blog. Current companies working with Blogvertise include, Totsy, Groupon, Vista Print, and Jenny Craig.

Link Worth

Link Worth is a Dallas based company that connects major brands to publishers. Through Link Worth bloggers can get paid for text link ads, paid blog reviews, in-text links, in-content pay per click ads, rotating text ads, hosted content pages and article submissions. As the publisher you will name your ad rates, and Link Worth will split the payment with you 50/50. Payments can be made through direct deposit, PayPal, check or wire transfer, varying fees and payment thresholds will apply for all methods.

Pay Per Post

PayPerPost is an online marketplace that connects you with advertisers who will pay you to write blog posts about their products, services and companies on your blog. Opportunities will be presented and you have the option of accepting, declining or negotiating the terms with them. Depending on the opportunities you will be paid per word or per post, and you get to set your own prices. Payments are made via PayPal once you’ve reached a $50.00 threshold.

Pay U2 Blog

Pay U2 Blog is a third party company that connects businesses to bloggers. Bloggers can get paid every two weeks via PayPal for writing sponsored blog posts, hosting sponsored banner ads, videos, and podcasts. Assignment payouts will vary depending on the project, previous work history and number of bloggers enrolled.

Purple Camel Media

Launched in 2012, Purple Camel Media connect bloggers to brands for sponsored blog posts. From the email I received, each sponsored post pays $100. If you’d like to be considered, shoot them an email via their contact form.

Review Me

Review Me is strictly for paid reviews. Just sign up for an account, then advertisers will contact you to participate in reviews. You decide whether or not to accept the assignment; payout ranges from $20.00 to $200.00 for each completed review that you post on your site. Payments are made the first of the month via PayPal, check or debit card.

Sponsored Reviews

Sponsored Reviews is a third party platform that connects you with major advertisers who will pay you for write or post sponsored content on your blog. Advertisers pay anywhere from $5 – $1,000 per post depending on the quality and popularity of your site. Payments are made via PayPal every two weeks.

Social Spark

Social Spark is an online platform that connects bloggers, publishers, and website owners with major brands. Simply set up your account, set your price per post, pick which advertisers you’d like to work with, write your post, and then get paid via PayPal. Current companies working with Social Spark are HP, Overstock, AT&T, Microsoft, Beaches Resorts, Hilton, Kraft, and many more. Typical pay ranges from $25 – $200 per post, and you have total control over who you work with.

Viral Planet

Viral Planet is a UK based company that is strictly for video content. Sign up for an account, display video content via your blog or social media accounts and get paid per view. Couldn’t find any information on how often publishers get paid, how much or what methods. One current advertiser that they are working with is Huggies.

Written has a unique approach for paying bloggers for content. At Written they pay you on a monthly basis, for licensing articles from your site to help companies with their content marketing strategies. To get started, sign up for an account and connect it to Google Analytics. Once a company sees an article that they like on your blog, they make an offer to license it on their site for a set period of time, for a certain amount of money each month. During this time the article is redirected from your site to the advertisers site. When the contract is over the article is redirected back to your site. Payments are made monthly via PayPal.

44 Ways to Make Money Blogging

Affiliate Marketing and Sales:

Affiliate marketing is a way that publishers can earn income by referring and recommending products and services on their blog. Say for instance you have a website on fashion trends, as an affiliate marketer you would place banner ads, blog posts, reviews, and/or send out newsletter promos, or social media updates for fashion related products and services free of charge. In return you will earn a commission on every product that is sold through your affiliate link, or on every lead that is generated through your site. While you can search on your own for affiliate programs, the providers below offer some of the best affiliate programs on the web – make sure to check them out.

FlexOffers is an affiliate marketing network, where publishers can gain access to millions of products and services that can be promoted through text links, banner ads, templates, and other applications. Payments are made via check or direct deposit, weekly and monthly, once you hit a $100 threshold. Some companies that are part of the FlexOffers family are Macy’s, Target, Best Buy, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and many more. This platform is super easy to use and with all of the great companies, it’s easy to meet and exceed the payment threshold.

Share A Sale

Share A Sale is an affiliate network where bloggers and publishers can connect with thousands of big name brands, in fact there are over 2,500 merchants to connect with. Each of these companies has a different type of product that they are selling, and their ready to send money your way for each customer that you bring to them. Payments are made via check and direct deposit monthly, once you’ve reached a $100 threshold. Current merchants include Adidas, Zulily, Craftsy, Johnston & Murphy, Tiny Prints and many more. One of my favorite affiliate networks, easy to use, tons of great merchants to choose from, and I never have a problem meeting the monthly payment threshold.

Skimlinks is another automated affiliate platform. Bloggers can apply for approval into the network, once you’re approved simply paste a special code on to your site and you’re ready to go. Links will automatically be added to your content, and you’ll start making money from clicks. Refer other bloggers into the program and double your earnings.

Viglink is an easy way for bloggers and online publishers to automate their affiliate marketing. Simply sign up and paste the dedicated code that they give you on to your website. When these links are clicked on and your readers make a purchase, you’ll earn cash. You can earn even money money by adding Viglinks to your Facebook and Twitter updates or through your email account. Viglink works with companies like Amazon, Anthropologie, Avon… in fact they have over 30,000 companies that they are affiliated with. Refer other bloggers and friends to sign up for Viglink and make even more money.

Check out this post for more reputable affiliate networks.

Working with Brands:

Working with brands on various promotional campaigns can be a great way to earn money through your blog. Many companies will pay for sponsored blog posts, Twitter parties, as well as giveaways and review opportunities. While you can contact companies on your own, it can be difficult to break in — this is where third party connectors can help aid in the process. While your earnings will tend to be less when you work with a third party connector, it does get your foot in the door. And depending on the success of your promotion, you could be asked to become a brand ambassador or blogger for the company, which means stable income.

Here are some of the major third party connectors you can sign up with.

Hi Holly – thank you so much for mentioning TapInfluence! We greatly appreciate it. Let us know if you ever have any questions we can help you with.

Holly: Thanks for sharing these 28 ways of making money on blogging. I have been blogging for 11 years and I have been struggling on monetize my blogs, but I have made money in other ways, indirectly through relationships with readers, supporters and fellow bloggers.

Have you tips and ideas on sponsorship programs? Have you had any success with a tip jar or donation button?

I think its vital to create material for your readers that doesn’t have a call to action! I think the average reader can get a good sense of what you are after if you are just blogging for financial gain!

Wonderful breakdown holly, thank you! I was banned from ad sense for the same thing and have been with an ad company every since, however I need to diversify as it just isn’t doing the job on its own. I appreciate the list you put together and will be acting on all of them. I would be interested in a breakdown of ad companies out there that are trustworthy in their analytical. Currently I am with Burst Media, and it never seems to pair with my own analytic feedback. Thoughts?

Just wanted to mention the Amazon Associates Program as another simple way to earn some cash that may not even involve changing anything about the way you are doing your blog now. I just joined the program, so I’m not really sure how much money one can make off of this, but basically you use a unique product link to an Amazon product in your blog and then get a commission if anyone buys the product after clicking the link from your site. I don’t think this will make me huge bucks, but I find I am often referring to Amazon products and linking to them on my blog, so it’s a no-brainer to get some credit for it should that actually result in someone buying the product I mentioned. But there is no guarantee of being paid for it, just FYI.

Thanks for the tips Holly and from everyone that commented! I was thinking the only way to make money was through ads–I am definitely going to visit each one of these sites.

    Freelancer says:

Hi Holly, I cannot thank you enough for this great post. I have been a regular visitor to your website for about 2 years. I am actually new to the freelancing world. I write mostly for private clients on a number of topics I have good knowledge in. Blogging is a great way to break in the online freelance writing world, but making money with a blog still seems to me quite a daunting task. I just hope Google does not frown upon sponsored posts because a blogger can really earn good money writing sponsored blog posts. I am not, however, very much confident about making money with affiliate programs yet. I know they can be effective for some webmasters and bloggers, particularly those who have great writing skill to persuade their readers. I will look forward to these two models to monetise my website though. Thank you for sharing the valuable information.

    Thanks Holly

I’ve never really done that much with AdSense over the years, although know from talking with other bloggers it has been a big part of a lot of people’s incomes. To see and hear about your own diverse income model is really useful – far too often we are stuck following one “road to riches” while ignoring lots of little laneways that might easily add income if we took the time and made the effort to explore a little.

Right now, I’m adding products that I create as well as a number of valuable affiliate income streams to create a product ladder that I plan to use to reach my income goals for 2014

  10. 10

Hmm Nice one, but I taught adding payed article on your blog is not adivasable on Google webmaster Guildlines, and its part of negative seo, adding links to your site for promotional content.

any ways, as per the banner I prefer that a lot, that’s it no banner is java script enabled, ama try it some day.. Thanks for the article though :-)

Everybody I have talked to that has start using the Internet eventually asks the question: How can I make money online? And for most people, they never learn what they need to do in order to make a couple hundred to thousands of dollars online.

Everybody wants to make money online, but very few people know where to start. For most people it comes down to having to learn advanced skills that they never have time to master, resulting in the feeling of helplessness about making money online.

Luckily for me, I found an easy way around that about a year ago. Instead of trying to learn crazy web languages or graphic design, I started search for nontechnical ways to make money online. This led me to taking paid surveys online.

One of the great things about the Internet is that it can connect people and companies almost instantly, and companies have found out about it. Companies have found that they can receive almost instant feedback about their products, services, or ad campaigns through the Internet. This is called market research, and before it used to take companies hundreds of thousands of dollars and many months to find average and sometimes outdated data.

Now, companies have a direct and almost instant link to people that use their products, and will pay people to help them speed up their market research. When I found out about it, I was a little skeptical, but I decided to try my hand at it anyway.

What I found was that I could make decent money just by filling out online surveys for an hour or so, everyday. It was surprisingly easy since I could do them while chatting on Facebook or after my kids went to bed, so I figured I would give it a month and see how much I could earn. At the end of the month, I was so excited when my first check came in the mail for $638.28!

After a few months, I built up a reputation so that survey companies would give me even higher paying surveys, giving me even more money. Overall it has been a very smart choice that fits into my lifestyle, and hasn’t required me to learn anything advanced computer skills. If you are trying to make some extra money, give online surveys a try.

    So how does it work?

    1. Find a website that has a large survey database. I have tried a few, but personally, I like Surveys At Home because they have prescreened the survey websites to find the ones that pay the best.

    2. Sign up with a few sites, 3-5 to start then add more to receive more surveys

    3. Start taking surveys, simply fill out accurate information. They usually take 10-20 minutes per survey.

    4. Cash out and receive your payment either with PayPal or by mail.

Best or all, you don’t need to spend any money, there is no risk or scams, and the sites are free to join. If you are looking to earn some extra income, surveys seem to be one of the best ways to go.

First the list you have given is really good, it is very much helpful as there are many ways here. However, when I read through and reached at the point where you have mentoned about “Reviewme” and “SponseredReviews” do you feel that we can still make money from posting reviews? As I heard in recent times search engine has penalized review based website so it is still a way that anyone sign up for review?

      Hi Analisa,

You’re welcome. Thanks for your kind words =)

Take the time to create a business plan for your blog and define your target audience. Doing these things will fast-track your success. I highly recommend reading Mom Blogging for Dummies ( – affiliate link) – as this book covers a ton of legal aspects that most people never consider. The other book that’s really helpful is How to Blog for Profit ( – affiliate link) talks in depth about getting traffic and making money.

Good luck and keep me posted on your journey!
