Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer. Odds are, you’re probably shopping on the website or have made a purchase within the last year. Some people make monthly purchases on Amazon due to its convenience, accessibility, and prices.
What if you could earn free Amazon gift cards to make your purchases with? While gift cards aren’t the same as cash, they can certainly come in handy on a site that sells virtually everything. Free Amazon gift cards are easy to earn and can supplement your spending.
Here are 11 practical ways to earn free Amazon gift cards online!

1. Take Surveys Online
Taking online surveys is one of the easiest ways to earn free Amazon gift cards. Survey sites are free to sign up for and allow you to make money by sharing your opinions and experiences.
Most survey companies will reward you with points once you finish a survey. These points can be redeemed for gift cards, including Amazon gift cards.
Survey Junkie is a good survey site to consider using. You’ll earn points just for filling out your profile, and 1,000 points will net you a $10 gift card. Besides paid surveys, they also have product review opportunities, focus group studies, and behavioral research studies.
Branded Surveys is another popular rewards program for earning free Amazon gift cards. It recruits survey takers from the US, Canada, and the UK, and new users can earn 100 bonus points when they join. With Branded Surveys, you earn a set amount of points for each survey you take. These points can then be traded in for free money via PayPal, Visa gift cards, and, of course, Amazon gift cards.
This next survey site pays out in PayPal cash, Amazon gift cards, Visa prepaid cards, and others. With Ipsos iSay, you’ll earn points for each survey you take. You can also earn 100 points for each friend you refer to the platform. 500 points equals $5 in rewards, and surveys vary in point value and length.
Many of these sites have mobile device apps, so you can complete surveys on the go and maximize your earnings. Signing up for multiple survey sites can help you earn free Amazon gift cards each month.
A few words of caution; you’ll get a lot of emails when you sign up with these types of sites, so it’s a good idea to create a separate email account solely for these activities. Also, if you’re not comfortable sharing personal details about your life, like date of birth, marital status, gender, and more, market research is not a good opportunity for you.
2. Complete Short Tasks
Short task sites like Swagbucks, InboxDollars, and MyPoints are still popular and going strong.
Swagbucks helps you earn money by completing quick tasks such as taking surveys, shopping online, playing games, and trying out offers. You’ll earn SB points for completing each task, and 500 points equals $5 in rewards. Swagbucks has gift cards to the most popular retailers, restaurants, and more, including Amazon. Sometimes, the gift cards go on sale, and you can redeem one for fewer points and save.
With Swagbucks, new users can earn $10 sign-up bonuses when they earn 2,500 SB within their first 60 days of joining.
InboxDollars is a similar platform where you can get paid to take surveys, read emails, play games, scan receipts, shop online, and more. InboxDollars gives you a $5 bonus just for signing up. You’ll need a balance of at least $15 before redeeming your reward or gift card the first time you cash out. Thereafter, you’ll only need $10 in your account to cash out.
MyPoints is another platform where you can earn free Amazon gift cards for doing simple tasks like taking surveys, playing games, online shopping, and more! They, too, offer a $5 sign-up bonus, which can be redeemed after you verify your email address. For each task you complete, you’ll earn points that can be traded in for gift cards to retailers like Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart, and eBay. Or use your points for a Visa gift card; the choice is yours!
3. Use Smartphone Apps
There are many rewards apps that will pay you for scanning your receipts, shopping online, mystery shopping, linking your credit card, and scanning barcodes in stores.
One popular app is Receipt Hog. With this app, you take photos of your receipts and earn a set amount of coins for each one you submit. You can also connect your Amazon account directly, and for each shopping trip, you’ll automatically earn coins. These coins can be traded in for free Amazon gift card codes, PayPal cash, or Visa prepaid cards. You can also earn slot bonuses for referring your friends.
Receipt Hog is available for both iOS and Android devices. Other rewards apps include Shopkick, Ibotta, Dabbl, Mobee, and Fetch Rewards.
4. Shop Online
Earning cashback has never been easier, especially if you’re shopping online. Rakuten is a platform that helps you find coupons and earn cashback on your purchases. They partner with thousands of brands, so you’re bound to find a good deal.
With Rakuten, the key is to download the free browser extension. That way, whenever you visit a website to shop or browse, Rakuten will automatically show you the cashback alerts, so you don’t forget to activate them. Rakuten pays out your cashback balance each quarter.
When shopping for groceries or household items, be sure to use apps like Ibotta and Fetch. You can browse the app for rebate offers to claim. Once you claim an offer, just do your shopping as you normally would and buy the item, of course. Then, you can scan your receipt to earn cashback. You can get these apps in the iTunes and Google Play stores.
Rakuten pays you in cash, but you can use this money to buy Amazon gift cards or supplement your Amazon purchases. Ibotta and Fetch allow you to use your cashback earnings in the form of cash or Amazon gift cards directly.
5. Search Online
Another easy way to earn free Amazon gift cards is simply by surfing the web. We all use the internet, and you could be earning rewards for searching for terms online. Swagbucks has a search feature that is similar to Google. You’ll earn points to add to your balance every time you use it.
Bing Rewards, also known as Microsoft Rewards, is another option. Sign in to your Microsoft account and search on Bing to keep earning points. You’ll earn 5 points per search, and you can use those points to redeem gift cards and enter sweepstakes to earn other prizes. With Microsoft Rewards, it takes about 5,000 points to earn $5 in rewards.
With Nielson Computer & Mobile Panel, you can install their software on your computer and mobile devices to share your browsing history. For doing this, you’ll earn $60 a year in rewards (Gift cards from retailers like Amazon or cash via PayPal or Visa), plus instant win game tokens and sweepstake entries. 6. Trade-In Your Electronics
Do you have any old video games, books, tablets, or other devices? Then check out Amazon’s trade-in program, where they will buy back your used electronics. If Amazon decides to buy back your item, you’ll need to ship it to them, and they’ll award you an Amazon gift card for the purchase amount. In addition to the gift card, Amazon will also provide you with a promo to purchase a new device similar to the one you sold them.
Start by visiting the Amazon Trade-In page and entering details about your device or item. You may even be able to type in the barcode numbers to identify it. It won’t take long for Amazon to offer you a quote for the item, and you can decide whether to sell it.
7. Use an Amazon Feature or Service
Amazon is more than just a shopping platform. They provide coupons, video streaming, e-reading books and resources, photo storage services, and more. If you need to use additional services offered by Amazon, you could earn a free gift card as a bonus.
Amazon is always giving out free gift cards, so it’s important to keep a lookout. You may be offered a free gift card to join Amazon Prime or Amazon Photo Storage. If you need these services and plan to use them, earning a free Amazon gift card will just seem like an added bonus.
Another way to earn free Amazon gift cards is through Amazon Mechanical Turk, MTurk for short. With the platform, you can complete a wide variety of short tasks like transcription, focus group studies, surveys, data entry, internet research, editing, and more.
Each project has an associated pay rate, and honestly, some of them only pay pennies per job. When you’re searching for tasks, sort them from high to low-paying to weed out the opportunities that are not worth your time. People in the US can have their earnings in the form of cash or Amazon gift cards. Worldwide users only have the option of the latter.
8. Test Websites and Apps
Another easy way to earn free Amazon gift cards is by signing up to be a usability tester!
There are many reasons why business owners pay individuals to test their websites and apps, such as ease of navigation and double-checking that things work properly. Some website and app testing gigs require you to be recorded on a webcam so you can walk them through what you’re seeing. Other opportunities require the user to test a website or app and then write down their experience.
The first company you can explore is Ferpection. They pay website and mobile app testers $5-$20 (either cash via PayPal or Amazon gift card), depending on the complexity of the test.
A couple of other companies that you can check out are User Interviews and Respondent. While they don’t offer Amazon gift cards directly, you can take your PayPal earnings from these sites to purchase the products you want from Amazon. Both of these sites have opportunities for paid surveys, focus group studies, and website testing gigs.

9. Gift Card Swap
Have you ever gotten a gift card for a store, restaurant, or establishment that you don’t frequent? Then, use a site like CardCash to sell your unwanted gift cards. While you won’t earn the full value of the original gift card, they will make you a fair offer, and you’ll earn 11% more when you trade instead of selling on their site. CardCash doesn’t have Amazon gift cards listed on their site, but you can take your cash earnings via check, direct deposit, or PayPal and use the earnings to purchase stuff you want on Amazon.
Another gift card selling site is Raise, which has Amazon gift cards for sale. With this platform, it’s the same process, except they only offer payments via PayPal and direct deposit. Check out this post for more websites that you can use to sell your unwanted gift cards.
10. Enter Giveaways
If you’re willing to take a little time and experiment, you might be able to earn free Amazon gift cards by entering giveaways online. Many companies use giveaways as a method of obtaining new leads and customers, so there are always tons of giveaways to enter. Not sure where to find these so-called giveaways? Start your search on social media sites like Facebook, where there are many groups dedicated to giveaways. Or look at giveaway blogs like Contest Girl, where all they do is post about new giveaways that people can enter. While winning free Amazon gift cards isn’t guaranteed, it is an easy and free way to try and earn some freebies online.
11. Earn Credit Card Rewards
Another way to earn free Amazon gift cards is to use a credit card that offers rewards. Credit card companies like Chase and Capital One allow users to earn points on certain purchases. Once you earn enough points, you can trade them in for travel, cash, and gift cards from major retailers like Amazon. Of course, you don’t want to use your credit card and rack up a bunch of debt and interest just to get free Amazon gift cards. Be strategic, and use your credit card for monthly bills and purchases like gas stations or groceries, and then pay off the balance every month. How much you can earn will depend on your spending habits and the credit card that you’re using. Shop around and find the credit card with the best rewards per dollar spent.

I agree with her you did a wonderful job on the article. but did you go a lot deeper on making money playing games. Which app has pays the best for playing the games that you will need to download . I could tell you alit more but I am getting tired.
If you already did this article will you please send it to me. If you haven’t will you investigate and find out who is the best? who pays the best. How long do you need to play a game. How long til you get paid. How will you get paid?
And I have had personal experience where at least one company wouldn’t deal with Amazon. I got upset because I love Amazon.
Good luck, dig deep, get all the details. Maybe you could make a chart of all of them.
Hi Karen,
I personally don’t play videos games for cash — I’m just not into video games.
But this post does a deep dive into the topic:

Good luck!
Hi Holly
,
I love your newsletter and have used some of the ideas you’ve shared.
I have a question/concern about scanning receipts for points.
If you use a credit card or some other means of electronic payment to pay for your items at whatever store, who has access to the information on your receipt?
Has anyone had a bad experience in scanning and sharing receipts?
Thanks!
Hi Denise,
That’s a great question!
I use Receipt Hog, Swagbucks, Ibotta, and Fetch. On your receipt, the first 12 numbers of your credit card are XX’ed out, only the last 4 digits are visible.
For safety purposes, I only use my credit card for purchases, I never use a debt card.
Hope this helps.
