Making money from home is something that many women these days are looking to do. Let’s face it, when you take into account the cost of childcare, gas, work clothing, lunches, and more, depending on the type of work you do, sometimes staying home can save you money!
But are there actually profitable ways to make money from home?
Well, I’m happy to say that thanks to the internet, I can say with 100 percent certainty, YES!
Gone is the day of stuffing envelopes (although you want to definitely be on the lookout for potential scams). We’re in a new era where women can absolutely stay home with their children while also bringing in a decent income … and in some cases, pretty substantial!
1. Blogging
Probably my favorite way to make money from home. Although, I will say it’s definitely not the easiest, mostly because of the time it takes to build traction (and by traction, I mean traffic) and to be able to actually produce income. (If you want to start a profitable blog of your own, we can help you do that here!)
If you’re looking for proof that you can make money blogging, I’d like to introduce you to Becky Mansfield and Paula Rollo. Becky runs Your Modern Family and Paula runs Beauty Through Imperfection.
They have both successfully brought their husbands home to work with them, thanks to the income they earn from their blogs … isn’t that awesome and inspiring?! If you’re in doubt, check out Becky’s income report from last year here and Paula’s monthly income report from blogging part-time (only 6-10 hours a week!) here.
To help you get started on the right foot, check out their newest venture together Becky & Paula where you’ll find a ton of great info that will help you attain, as their tagline says, better skills, faster stats, and more money! If you need more in-depth info and are ready to get serious about blogging, I highly recommend the Blogpreneur Course they teach with Holly Homer from Kids Activities Blog.
2. Freelance Writing
Is a fantastic choice that will allow you to make money from home. One of the best things about this option is that you can get started for very little money upfront. There are a multitude of opportunities when it comes to freelance writing—you can write for magazines (both online and print), blogs, and work for businesses (large or small) doing things like copywriting, white papers, emails, and even social media writing.
3. Virtual Assistant
As a Virtual Assistant (commonly referred to as a VA for short), you can wear many hats. Tasks range from research, email management, and creating graphics to social media management, editing, and scheduling blog posts, and more!
You can also get started as a VA for very little money upfront, which is why it’s so appealing to many women wanting to work from home. I see many bloggers (including myself) do this type of work as it allows you to bring in an income while you’re building your own blog (that typically takes longer to generate an income, as mentioned previously). There are also many freelance writers who dabble in VA work as well.
As a VA, you can work for large companies, small businesses, bloggers, freelance writers, authors, and more. The possibilities are endless!
Need more proof? Michelle Dale, Sherry Carnahan, and Michelle Mangen are making anywhere from $132,000 – $300,000 a year! Read their stories to see how they’re doing it.

4. Direct Selling
Although sometimes direct selling gets a bad rap, it still can be a very profitable way to make money from home. As a direct seller, your income is directly tied to your effort. There are typically higher start-up fees to join a direct selling business, although there are some you can get going with for under $100!
Direct sales used to be primarily through home parties. Although that’s still a popular option, many direct sales reps also sell online, and some even do so exclusively.
You definitely have to do your research and check out a company thoroughly before you join, as well as make sure that you’re selling products you believe in and are using yourself (otherwise you can’t be authentic in your recommendations and will come off as purely salesy, in my opinion).
You can find a huge list of direct sales companies as well as tons of info to help you get started here.

What have you found to be the most profitable ways to make money from home? I would love to see your suggestions in the comments.
How do the direct sales agent sell online? Do they open a store or is it done through a blog? What if you would like to sell online but don’t have a blog?
Hi Tonya, Most direct sales companies give you a website to use for your business. Some like LuLaRoe, use Facebook groups to sell their products, others use catalogs. This page has a master list of direct sales companies: https://www.theworkathomewoman.com/direct-sales/
